This KS4 GCSE Dance Component 2: Dance Appreciation Walking Talking Mock is for teachers of AQA GCSE Dance who are preparing their pupils for the actual GCSE written paper. The PowerPoint presentation set over 3 lessons (1 lesson per section) guides pupils though the specimen written paper that can be found on the AQA GCSE website. Each question is broken down so that pupils clearly understand what is being asked of them and know how to gain full marks for each question (using AQA’s specimen mark scheme).
Each lesson (each section) comes with its own starter activity (bell task) and lesson objectives.
Section B includes talking points to help pupils articulate their ideas before writing their answers down. Section B also comes with some example answers. PLEASE NOTE: the example answers I compiled from different recourses that I found online but not from TES resources.
Section C I created myself (Only using AQA’s specimen paper for guidance). I have included the answer booklet for section C within this resource (the specimen paper for sections A and B can be found on AQA’s website). Section C includes planning slides to help pupils plan for the 6 and 12 mark questions. Section C also comes with some example answers. PLEASE NOTE: the example answers I compiled from different recourses that I found online but not from TES resources.
Section C includes questions on Emancipation of expressionism, Artificial Things and Shadows so is ideal to be taught midway through Y10 (after teaching Emancipation of Expressionism, Artificial Things and Shadows) following the advice from AQA or at any point onwards as part of the revision process.
The creation of the PowerPoint was very time consuming. Feel free to create your own or save a lot of time by downloading mine.

This resource is for KS1 teachers teaching dance through the Physical Education part of the national curriculum during the topic of toys (or any topic connected to toys, gifts, celebration etc).
This ‘Toys’ scheme of work is great to teach after the holiday season. It allows pupils to share their holiday experience through emotion and movement games along with developing their creativity through choreography tasks.
This SOL comes with:
6 lesson plans, detailing the activities in each lesson along with coaching points to aid teaching.
A 6 lesson PowerPoint including notes under each slide to help with the delivery of the lesson.
A CPD document that should help with aspects of teaching dance that a none dance specialist might find helpful.
Notes:
The timings of the lesson and the activities within the lesson plans can of course be adapted. Activities can be changed, lengthened, shortened, taken out, differentiated etc.

This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising choreographic devices and choreographic intent within the anthology, in preparation for the written exam.
This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way.
Prior to the lesson, decide how you are going to divide your class into 6 groups (ideally a mixture of high and low ability in each group). After the starter activity on the PowerPoint sit pupils in their groups and give them access to one of the GCSE dance anthology dances each, either on their phones or iPads. Links to GCSE dance anthology dances can be found on EAQA but you will need a log in to access them. While watching their given dance piece, pupils should write notes about the choreographic devices that they see. Discuss with each group how the choreographic devices relates to the choreographic intent of the piece. After the discussion, give each group their exam question handout and allow pupils to answer the 2 questions (using their notes to help them).

This ‘Intro to Dance’ 6 lesson SOL and delivery PowerPoint is for teachers teaching dance at the beginning of Year 7 (or whenever dance is first introduced in your school).
Purpose:
This SOL is to be taught right at the beginning of Year 7. Lesson 1 is designed to inform pupils of the dance studio rules and what to expect from their secondary school dance lessons. Throughout this SOL, pupils will gain and develop basic performance skills through working as a whole class to perform a teacher taught phrase that consists of the different dance body action. Working in small groups, students will gain and develop basic choreography skills through the creation of their own phrase using the knowledge gained through the performance task and will have the opportunity to view each other’s work and provide feedback to improve their own and other’s work. Throughout this SOL there is an emphasis on safety in the dance studio where pupils will develop knowledge and understanding of basic health and safety requirements for dance.

KS4 AQA GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: Section C
This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising the dance anthology in preparation for the written exam.
This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way.
Prior to the lesson, decide how you are going to divide your class into 6 groups (ideally a mixture of high and low ability in each group). Each group should be given a large piece of paper with one of the 6 dance anthology pieces written in the middle, then use the PowerPoint. I spent approximately 5 min per slide and got the pupils to rotate around the room rather than the paper.
You will need the six anthology fact files found on the AQA GCSE Dance website for the latter part of the lesson.
Once the lesson is complete you will have revision display posters created by the dance pupils themselves.
KS4 AQA GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: 12 mark questions
This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising the dance anthology in preparation for the written exam.
This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way.
There are many ways to use this resource:
Make it into a game: print out the 1st slide and cut the boxes out. Pupils can pick the boxes at random and have a go at answering the questions on the second slide.
Differentiation: You can pre pick the questions prior to the lesson based on your pupil’s strengths and areas of weakness to challenge your pupils appropriately. Print out the 2nd slide for them with their differentiated question on.
Whole class activity: As a class decide on a question to tackle and discuss the question together before allowing the pupils to have a go at writing their answers.
Homework revision: Print out the PowerPoint for your pupils to allow them to practice the 12 mark questions at home.

This ‘Gumboot Dance’ 6 lesson SOL is for teachers teaching KS3 dance.
This SOL explores the history and evolution of South African Gumboot dance. Pupils will gain and develop basic dance appreciation skills through watching clips of Gumboot dancing and '“Gumboots” Through the eyes of Michael Moloi which will lead into discussions about the history of the style in relation to actions, space, dynamics and relationships. Props are introduced from lesson 4 and inspiration on how to use them is drawn from Stomp the Musical. Pupils will gain and develop basic performance and choreography skills through working as a whole class to perform set Gumboot rhythms using unison, repetition and action and reaction. Working in small groups, pupils are encouraged to be creative and are allocated time to experiment and improvise choreographic ideas with their groups resulting in a group performance of their Gumboot choreographies that include a prop. Pupils will have the opportunity to view each other’s work and provide feedback to improve their own and other’s work. This SOL also provides pupils with research homework tasks to promote independence and research skills needed at KS4.

This Rock and Roll 6 lesson SOL is for teachers teaching year KS3 dance (ideally year 7 after teaching ‘Intro to Dance’.
This is a fun and energetic SOL designed for pupils to have fun while learning performance, choreography and appreciation skills through the Rock and Roll dance style.
The PowerPoint is structured around my choreography of ‘Jail House Rock’ From the Blues Brothers musical and some of the terminology used e.g. ‘pancake roll’ is terminology that I use rather than being a technical term. This is not a PowerPoint that you will be able to use unedited. Feel free to edit for whichever Rock and Roll song you would like to use.

Either use it to keep an up to date track of pupils scores from their assessments or use it to enter predicted scores, guide conversations with pupils or to answer questions such as ‘how many more marks would I need to get a level…”

This resource is for EYFS teachers teaching dance through the Physical Education part of the national curriculum.
This Noah’s Ark scheme of work has been designed to inspire creativity in young children in a fun and energetic way. Throughout the 6 lessons, pupils will be developing their listening and communication skills as well as their dance skills; linking actions to the lyrics of a popular nursery rhyme.
Within this resource there are 6 detailed 30 min lesson plans including: Aims and objectives, descriptions of activities (starter, warm up, main activity, plenary etc), Organisation information and ‘coaching’ points.

This resource is for KS1 teachers teaching dance through the Physical Education part of the national curriculum during the topic of the Caribbean (or any topic connected to the Caribbean, holidays or Zumba).
Calypso dance was formed in the islands of Trinidad and Tobago by African people enslaved in the Caribbean in the 1800s. They were treated very badly and had to work in horrific conditions. However, during their free time, they celebrated through singing and dancing and this is how the style began. Although then, the dance style was about telling stories through dance; today, Calypso dance moves are used in Zumba fitness routines as they are fun and energetic.

This resource is for KS1 teachers teaching dance through the Physical Education part of the national curriculum during the topic of rainforests (or any topic connected to rainforests, Brazil, carnival or celebration).
This ‘Rainforest Animals/Carnival’ SOL allows pupils to discover Brazil in a fun, exciting and an imaginative way. During the first 3 lessons of this scheme of learning, pupils will learn about the animals that live in the Amazon Rainforest, which they will use as a stimulus for choreography. The following 3 lessons focuses on carnival, where pupils will be able to take part in their own carnival parade. At the end of this scheme of learning, pupils will have a performance piece that they can perform in an assembly or for parents.

This resource is a music file that I created using audio clips from the 6 professional works from the dance anthology. The clips have been mixed together to create an anthology megamix. I have used the megamix within 2 of my uploaded resources (KS4 GCSE Dance Infra and Y9 GCSE Dance Taster Anthology).
It can be used within lessons and/or used as the music for a performance piece.

This resource is a PowerPoint where on each slide is a stage type: thrust stage, end on stage, in the round and traverse stage. I have printed (A3) and laminated each slide to display in my dance studio. I refer to the stage types at KS3 when asking pupils to sit in the audience, ready for a class performance/assessment. “Year 7, take your places in the audience of a thrust stage.” This is also really useful to use as an aid for class management. At KS4, the display acts as a revision aid.
